A year in the making

Hello blog world!! I have missed the blogging world since I have been MIA the last couple of days. I have just been so tired that I have not made myself get up and do anything.

I made a very important decision today…Want to know what that important decision was?? I officially changed my LAST NAME today. You might be thinking what in the world…..

Well, I finally went to the DMV and the Social Security office and changed my last name. Yes, I know that I have been married a year and almost a month and I just changed my last name. Over the past year I have not announced this to many people that I have not changed my last name. So…. I guess when many people read this post today they will be a little shocked. Surprise!!

I thought I was the only girl who got married and didn’t change my name, but the bigger my blog friend circle gets the more and more girls I find have not changed their name legally either.

This leads me to the questions why? Why does it take us so long to get it changed, while other girls do it the next Monday?

Just because I didn’t change my name right away or within six months does not mean I love my husband any less. It does not make me a bad person, a bad wife…well I guess it just makes us a little bit crazy!

So this is where you guys come in… If you are married, how long after you got married did it take you to change your last name or have you changed your name yet?

Things I LOVE Thursday….

Happy Thursday everyone! Tomorrow is Friday and we all know what that means…Only one more day until the weekend.

Side Note: While I am writing today’s post the back side of my house is under construction. We are getting new windows and new outside boards for the house so it is kind of loud. Just thought you might like to know! I am excited!!

I am also excited about Saturday! A lot of my family is getting together to celebrate birthdays and we are also having a house warming party for my sisters new house! Yay! It will be party time this weekend.

Ok well let me get to all the wonderful things that I LOVE this week. We all know that Fall is just around the corner and I am sure that everyone is ready for some cooler weather. It has been one hot Summer.
Last night while I was at Target I bought some new Fall clothing articles. The new fall clothes I bought last night are the inspiration behind today’s Things I LOVE Thursday….

Here are the pieces I bought last night.

Autumn Leaves

Were I live we do not always get a “real” Fall or a lot of Autumn Leaves, but when we get them we are so excited that you would have thought we had just won the lottery. But on the other hand I love when the leaves start to turn and the air starts to get crisp. It is such a beautiful time of the year.

Football

Without a doubt when the weather starts to get crisp and the leaves being to change colors something happens to this small town I live in and that something would be called football. The town becomes crazy about football. Every house you walk into has football on the TV. The local store windows will be painted for the home team and tailgates will be down loaded with food and beer. You wouldn’t believe what a little bit of pig skin will do to a town.

His/Her Questions

At the end of July Damon and I celebrated our first anniversary of being married. Yay! We both got really busy with school and life and I couldn’t pin him down to answer these questions.  So I missed posting these his/her questions last week. I figured better late than never.

Damon’s answers to his question are 100% real. Well almost 100% real….. I saved you guys some of the unfiltered answers. For example:  all triple X comments.

After reading through all the questions and answers I laughed out loud just realizing how different men and women are. I hope you guys enjoy all the questions!  Maybe this will encourage you guys to ask more questions in your relationship and help you discover more about your significant other.

 Here we go….

Left: Damon and I senior year in economics - Right: Damon and I now

1. When was the first time you realized you liked each other?

His: In high school we had an economics class together senior year. (We graduated together in 2007)
Her: The end of February 2010 when he randomly started texting me.  I do not even know how he got my number.

2. What superpower would you want if you could choose any?

His: Umm….Caption America’s superpower.
Her: I would want to have the ability to read minds. When I ask Damon a question I would like to know what he is thinking before he answers.

3. What was your favorite memory from the past year?

His: This past Fourth of July when we visited the Flint River Aquarium. It was not the place just us being together going on a new adventure.
Her:  6:00 a.m.! Since we have been married, three nights a week Damon works night shift. When 6:00 a.m. rolls around, Damon gets off work and heads home. I hate that we spend three nights apart, but when he gets home we get to start are day with pillow talk, laughing and snuggling!

4. What is one thing you learned about your other half after you got married?

His: That every time you fart, you laugh. No, I learned that you have WAY more clothes then I ever imagined.
Her: I have learned that he is really messy. He believes that he has an organized mess, but I am not feeling that definition of his areas in our house.

5. What is your favorite thing about the other person?

His: Just the random things you do. When I wake you up and ask you a question you throw your hands up in front of your face like a possum that is scared.
Her: My favorite thing about Damon would have to be his ability to make me laugh no matter what. In the morning he gets up singing and dancing and I love watching him when he doesn’t  know that I am watching. It makes me laugh.

6. What is your time frame for starting a family?

His: I would rather be expecting now, but this coming January.
Her: I have no clue on a time frame, but when the time is right we will know.

7. If you just scored $50.00, what would you spend it on?

His: GAS (that’s all he said no explanation)
Her: My first thought would be something new for fall. But then my minds starts thinking smart and I would spend it on either gas or food.

8. What item does he/she find hard to share with the other person?

His: My girlfriend pillow (Side note: Damon has this really old pillow that is almost flat and it is so comfortable we fight over it in the bed. When he gets the pillow he holds on to the pillow like he was holding on to a girlfriend or something.)
Her: The hardest thing for me to share with Damon is covers. I am always cold and he wants to get under the covers with me. He ends up stealing all the covers and then I have to get another cover.

9. What is your idea of a truly romantic evening?

His: Making stir-fry and a glass of wine (I will not write what else just came out of his mouth)
Her: A truly romantic evening to me would be just Damon and I simply sitting together and talking about everything over a nice quite dinner at home.

10. What do you think will happen within the next year of marriage?

His:  For love that we have to mature into something that we can only imagine. With my fingers crossed whether it is next year or not, for our family to grow. For some good luck!
Her:  In the next year of marriage I hope that Damon and I grow deeper in love with each other. I hope that our next year of marriage brings more adventure for the two of us. At the end of our next married year I hope to look back and say I love where our journey has taken us so far.

Me little, ole ME….

The other night while watching the Olympics with the hubby I grabbed my computer and started to blog hop. I hopped on over to Sara’s blog You.And.Me.Are.We and realized that I was nominated for The Liebster Award!! I was nominated once before for this same award, but I really was not sure how this all worked. Now I understand and I am completely HONORED to accept this award!

Sara did such an excellent explanation of what The Liebster Award was so I thought that I would share with everyone. Here is her explanation…

The way this award - The Liebster Award - works is that it is given to bloggers by bloggers to help show some recognition to smaller blogs (under 200 followers). When a blogger is given an award, they must answer 11 questions that have been given to them by the person who nominated them, come up with 11 random facts about themselves to share with everyone, nominate 11 other {small} blogs, and have those blogs answer 11 questions.
Let the fun begin….
11 Random Facts About Me:

1) Whenever I get sleepy I start to rub both of my feet together and I do not even realize I am doing it most of the time. Rubbing my feet together when I am sleepy has become such a big habit my husband starts turning off lights and locking doors. When I start seeing the lights turn off I realize that I am rubbing my feet together and it is time for bed. Why is the first random fact about me? Well because I am rubbing my feet together right now.
2) Even though I am 23 years old and married I still do not flush the toilet at night because the noise from the toilet scares me and I cannot hear if someone is trying to kill me.
3) Just like everyone else, I LOVE Chocolate, but I will not eat plain chocolate. The chocolate has to have something in it like nuts, coconut or bits of something.
4) When I was somewhere between the grades of 5th through 7th, not sure what grade or age, but that does not even matter... what I am about to tell you should never have happened at any age. When bad weather would come a brewing I would grab a headband and use it as my mouth piece and act like I was a meteorologist. I mean the wind would be going 20 miles an hour and I would be standing in our front yard reporting the weather. My mom would be yelling from the front door to come in side, but I had to warn the people of the town.
5) I absolutely hate driving. I beg my husband to drive all the time. He always makes me drive during the day because he has to do all the driving at night due to the fact that I cannot see at night. Head lights blur together and I cannot read street signs at night because the glare off the headlights makes me unable to see the signs at all. Scary…I know! What is even scarier is that the DMV gave me my driver’s licenses
6) I HATE coffee!! The smell of coffee does not bother me too much, but the taste, holy moly, I cannot handle it at all. The taste of coffee makes me want to throw up. Cold coffee, hot coffee, candy flavored coffee or anything coffee flavored comes right back up.
7) This may not be really random, but I want to live in the city. I want to be able to walk to pick up groceries or even walk to get supper. All my life I have lived somewhere where I had to drive 10 to 15 minutes to go to the nearest grocery store. My parents loved living in the middle of nowhere, me not so much; But guess what I married and live about 15 minutes from any type of civilization.
8) I LOVE to host events!! When growing up my parents always let me use our house to have all kinds of parties. New Years Eve, birthday dinners and even after prom parties they were all mild and PG no wild or crazy parties. Not even any booze.
9) Yes, I know it is very nasty, but I am a nail biter. I have never been able to break the habit no matter what I try I always revert back to biting my nails.
10) I am a people watcher. I am always watching people and sometimes my husband gets on to me for staring. I do not mean to at all, but I am so nosey about what is happening that I forget to be discreet about looking and I just stare at people.
11) 99.9% of the time when I write anything for my blog, facebook or twitter I am in my pajamas, hair has not been brushed, teeth definitely have not been brushed and no one but my amazing husband knows how rough I look while I am behind the computer.
Now that you have read 11 random facts about me I hope that you still have the same wonderful thoughts about me in your cozy little head.

Now time for the 11 questions from Sara for me to answer:

1) What's your favorite Olympic sport?

I would have to say that my favorite Olympic sport hands down would be beach volleyball.

2) Tell us about the best day of your life.

To pick just one day is clearly impossible. I will share some of the best days of my life with you. The day I was born, No I do not remember the day I was born, but it had to be excellent because I started my journey of life. The day I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savor was pretty excellent. Where would I be without him? The day I met my husband; the first time my husband told me he was in love with me; the day we got married and so many more days that have been the best to me.

3) Vanilla or Chocolate?

Hands down Vanilla.

4) What's your favorite movie and why?

My favorite movie of all time is Steel Magnolias featuring  Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts. The stars from the movie make the entire movie. If you have never seen this movie it is a MUST see!! I absolutely love this movie I can almost quote every line from this movie.

5) We all want to know, do you prefer boxers or briefs? {On your man, not you.}

Well this question may be different on a day to day basis, but I like both.

6) If you knew you'd never eat again, what would you eat for your last meal?

NEVER EAT AGAIN…that is the worst idea I have ever heard. If I had to choice at this moment my answer would be Japanese food and sushi from Oishii Japanese Grill. I LOVE this restaurant and I am really craving their food right now so that would explain my answer.

7) Tell us about your proudest accomplishment.

My proudest accomplishment would be that I received my Bachelors’ degree in Early Childhood. I have always felt like that is what the Lord wanted me to do ever since I was a little girl. Years later I have completed my degree and that is a HUGE accomplishment. In time I will start my maters program. Keeping my fingers crossed.

8) Link us to your top 3 favorite blogs! And then tell us why you like them.

ONLY 3 that is crazy! But I managed to pick my top 3 favorite blogs!

http://www.allthingsthrifty.com/ (Brooke was on CraftWARS)

9) What do you do to relax?

I watch straight trash on TV (nothing dirty or bad). I will come home and watch any kind of reality TV, Dr. Phil or The Ellen Show. I just simply watch shows on TV that I do not have to think about. I can simply just sit there and look at the screen.

10) If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

If I could live anywhere I would have to pick Greece. I have never seen an ugly picture of Greece it looks so relaxing. Plus it would be so fun and exciting just to move and start over somewhere with a new outlook on life, a new culture and new way to live.

11) What is your oldest memory?

The oldest memory that I have would probably be from my grandfather’s funeral.  I remember the viewing and the funeral. Most of all, I remember what I was wearing at the funeral. I wore this light pink dress with flowers. I remember that the dress buttoned all the way down. I wore like a cream colored pair of shoes and white ruffled socks folded over. It was in style then so don’t judge me.

I would LOVE to nominate the following wonderful ladies:

Katie from Beautiful With In Life

 Elise from That's Comma with a K

Emily from Dirt and Pearls

Chelsey from  Fancy That!

Whitney from The Observant Turtle

Now here are the 11 questions that the wonderful ladies I have nominated will answer:

1) Is there something you've dreamed of doing for a long time?

2) Who is someone you really admire?

3) Favorite actress?

4) If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?

5) What was the last thing you bought?

6) If someone wrote a book about your life, what would they title it?

7) Are you a morning person or a night owl?

8) Where do you think you’ll be in 10 years?

10) Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?

11) What Inspires You?

I hope to see all the wonderful answers from these great ladies!

Let’s talk Fifty Shades of Grey….

First let’s be honest with ourselves, you all clicked to read this post because your curiosity got the best of you…Ha-ha! No, I have not read the hot and steamy piece of literature that is all the rage this summer, but I have heard all about the book.

Now let’s talk about our version of Fifty Shades of Grey. This past week at work we were not really sure what to do with our time. I know what you all are thinking… do some work…Well our daycare did not show up that day so we had some time to kill. So this is what we decided to do…..

Our version of Fifty Shades of Grey….

Dear Damon

Today marks our ONE year anniversary!! I thought what a better way to shout it to the WORLD (or at least my little blog world) how much I love my husband than write a letter to Damon as today’s post.

Dear Damon,

As I sit down to write this letter I think back over the past year of all the memories that we have made and shared right by each other’s side. I look at you and wonder how you are mine. Thank you for choosing me! I cannot give enough thanks to God for bringing us together. Without God’s hand at work, I wouldn’t have had the chance to experience what an amazing husband you are.

I could never express how grateful I am for all the wonderful things that you do for me. You know how to make me laugh when I am in one of those moods, you know how to make the bed perfectly, take care of me when I am nasty sick, the silly stories you tell me that are not true, you tell me I am beautiful when I feel horrible, all the small surprises you bring home and the all the driving you do at night because I cannot see. But most of all, when you hold my hand in the car, finding each other’s feet at the end of the bed and even making our kissing noises when we are in front of people and cannot make out.

I want to tell you how proud of you I am for going after your dreams. One day when our schedules are the same we will not know what hit us.  Thank you for making all the sacrifices that you make for our life together.  I pray each day asking God to give you the strength to keep moving along to achieve your goals.

Over the past year you have given me so much joy and laughter. I cannot wait to see what the years to come have in store for us. I cannot wait to grow deeper in love with you through the years. I cannot wait to see what we are like in 10, 20 or even 50 years from now.

In the next year of marriage my promise is to love you more because you are the special person God created for me.  I promise to love you more simply because you are worthy to be loved. I promise to love you because I choose to and I promise to love you more for no other reason other than that you are my husband.

I love you more…

Sunday Social

It is Sunday and you know what that means, Sunday Social with Neely and Ashley. If you have not already linked up with Sunday Social you are missing out…

It feels great to be back into the blogging world. I have been down with a bad stomach virus for the last couple of days.

1. What is your dream job?

My dream job would be to become a successful event planner.

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?

I would travel a lot! When I was not traveling I would spend the rest of my time volunteering with different nonprofits organizations.

3. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was growing up all I wanted to be was a teacher. I followed that dream and now I am just looking for a job.

4. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?

The one piece of advice I would give to anyone going in the education field would be do not major in Early Childhood alone. Get a minor in anything else like Special Ed or History.  I only give this advice to set you apart from other people competing for the same position.

5. Biggest Pet Peeves either in life or in blogging or at work

The only pet peeve that I can think of at the moment is when I am washing dishes and someone throws a drink in the sink or tries to wash their hands.

6. Biggest Fears

Not really sure what my biggest fears are, but I am a big hypochondriac. I always think there is something wrong with me. Right now I will rarely eat pork because I am freaked out about getting a worm in my brain. I know I am a little crazy!
